Research Interests
My background is in Political Science (BA from Universidad Catolica de Asuncion, Paraguay and MA from New York University) and Cultural Studies. I did research on the Paraguayan state, cultural issues, and interwar Paraguayan history. Currently I’m working on the commemoration of Paraguayan centennial (early 20th century). My dissertation research will deal with the hydropolitics of the Itaipu Dam (owned by Brazilian and Paraguayan governments) and the transformation of the Paraguayan Eastern Region and the neighboring Brazilian regions. Uses of water, land, technology, shifting rural patterns, and new urban settings evolved around the construction of Itaipu. I’m planning to grapple with the reshaping of the region from a broad perspective, working in the intersections of Environmental History, Transnationalism, Labor History, Cultural History and Social History.
